‘Iris’ – The Messenger of the Gods

This free standing sculpture was commissioned by Ros Pritchard, created at the studio in Italy in late 2017 and installed on 17/2/2018 in her private gardens.
A creative partnership developed in the early stages of this commission as ideas, images and cultural references were used to find an image that could be realised to the satisfaction of both client and artist.

PAST COMMISSIONS
Tactile Map of the City of Edinburgh
Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland
Commission for Lothian Regional Council, the City of Edinburgh and sponsored by Marks and Spencer.
The commission was part of the regeneration of the Mound in central Edinburgh as part of the Playfair Project. The original prize winning design by Allies and Morrison was not realised except this ‘Sculpture for the Blind’ designed by me for inclusion in their overall scheme. During its creation it was clear from conversations with members of the blind and partially sighted community that the work should be accessible to all. So early designs were superseded by the tactile and visual three dimensional map that is used to this day by visitors and residents alike as an orientation point in the centre of the City.
Summer 2024. ‘Birds-eye view of my birds-eye sculpture of Edinburgh’.
Designs for “The Moor”
Falmouth, Cornwall, England
Public Commission by Cornwall County Council and Falmouth Town Council for a series of Artworks and street furniture for the major re-development of Falmouth Moor, Cornwall.
The creation of this new pedestrian area in the centre of Falmouth employed six artists and designers. I created a collection of works that used the movement of water as a theme, waves, ripples, the swell of the tide etc.
Oxclose Park, Halfway
Sheffield, Yorkshire, England
This Public Commission by Hallam Land Ltd. was to create a series of Artworks for new community development at Oxclose Park, Halfway, Sheffield UK.
The works included a large freestanding sculpture in steel, JANUS. The two headed god looking back at the old year as well as forwards to the new at the winter equinox, the halfway of the year.
The rich history of Halfway is depicted in many plaques created by local school children that are fixed to the surface of a stylised pigeon loft. A memorial built in stainless steel to the many lofts owned by miners who lived in the area prior to the closure of the pit. A signpost shows that halfway is well named not only in its relationship to nearby towns, but also to many places around the world! The public seating in steel and mahogany are shaped to encourage people using the seats to meet and encourage conversation, to meet people ‘halfway’.
